[1] The dory was made up of a bronze or iron curved leaf design spearhead and with a long, cylindrical socket that the shaft was placed.[2] At the end of the dory was a butt spike called the sauroter, which is Greek for ‘lizard killer’ the sauroter had many uses. It could be used to stand the spear up or be used as a secondary weapon if the spearhead broke off and was mostly made of bronze or iron. Most spears were made of the spearhead being made iron and the sauroter made of bronze [1] B. brennan Spartan society interpreting the evidence 2007 [2] http://classroom.synonym.com/ancient-greek-armor-weapons-during-battle-thermopylae-12579.html Accessed: July 25 2015 Spartan secondary weapon the sword: xiphos The Spartan sword was a secondary weapon used if the dory was broken. The kopis is known as the nasty Spartan weapon that was an alternative to the xiphos for Spartans as a secondary weapon. [4]It was a vicious hacking weapon in the form of a thick, curved iron sword, which was used more as an axe then a sword that inflicted critical damages. Which compared to clear hits made by the dory or xiphos. The weapon was seen as a ‘bad guy’ weapon in ancient Greece. [6]The Greek letter on the shield is called (lambda). This could be to stun them, knock them down or to get some room to use another weapon. [7]The shield could also be used as a killing weapon with its weight and thin edge making it a blunt weapon.[8] The hoplite shield or aspis was heavy weighting in about 13.6 kilograms it was constructed out of wood with an [9]outer layer of bronze.
